The Definitive Shadow Sea Fishing Guide
So you've found Tiber. He's a man of few straight words with a poetic inclination, and he's about to send you on a globetrotting quest across the Shadow Sea in search of the rarest catches ever to swim these waters. Welcome to the Gone Fishing Chronicles, a sidequest that will test your patience, your sea legs, and your ability to decode poetry on the fly.
This guide covers everything you need to reel in all seven legendary fish and claim the ultimate reward: the Fine Fishing Rod.
How It Works
The Gone Fishing Chronicles is a multi-chapter sidequest anchored (literally) to Tiber, the eccentric angler you'll find on his namesake island, Tiber's Rest. Here's the rhythm of the quest:
Tiber gives you a fishing assignment, but don't expect a straight answer. Each quest is delivered as a verse, which is your only clue to where the fish is hiding and what you're after.
Track down the specific fish at its exact location across the world.
Return to Tiber to report your catch and collect your reward.
Tiber then sends you off on the next chapter.
Complete all seven chapters and Tiber rewards you with the coveted Fine Fishing Rod.
The verses are cleverly written: read them carefully for environmental and directional cues before setting sail.
The Seven Quests
Chapter 1 - The Pearly Zander
Location: Tiber's Rest
"When Sol descends and paints the West With shades of fire, put skill to test. Upon the point where land meets sea, a Pearly Zander waits for thee!"
Your first assignment keeps you close to home. Head to the long cape stretching westward from Tiber's Rest — the one that juts out toward the setting sun. Cast your line from that outermost tip where the land gives way to open sea, and the Pearly Zander will be yours.
Tip: The poem's "shades of fire" and "Sol descends" are pointing you due west. It's a scenic spot: enjoy the view while you wait for a bite.
Chapter 2 - The Rainbow Bass
Location: Komona
"On Komona's isle, where palms sway free, a stone lantern stands for all to see. Behind its solemn torch, near the tide, The Rainbow Bass dances beneath the sky."
Sail to Komona and find the Sanctuary pillar near the entrance to the cave. It's a landmark you'll recognize once you're on the island. Cast from the water just below it, close to the tide, and the colorful Rainbow Bass will dance right onto your line.
Tip: Don’t get confused with the first Sanctuary you see when you arrive in Komona!
Chapter 3 - The Mudfish
Location: Trident
"Three towering peaks make this isle, and in their shade — a small pond nestled where the spruces laid. The waterfall's call, a constant refrain, It echoes past peaks and through the plain. Seek out this spot where moss-draped stones lie, and you shall find Mudfish lurking nearby."
Trident's three peaks give the island its name, and it's in their shadow you'll be fishing. Make your way to the inland pond, the one where Tetraodd can be found, serenaded by a nearby waterfall. The Mudfish has no interest in the open sea; it's a creature of still freshwater and mossy banks.
Tip: This is the only inland fishing spot in the entire questline. If you can see the waterfall, you're in the right place.
Chapter 4 - The Arcadian Pike
Location: Dawnbreak Ridge
"An island cloaked in mystic lore, where a witch's hut guards the shore. A Pike of legend — fierce and keen, awaits your challenge, unseen! Seek it beneath the cliff's steep grace, and prove your worth in this secluded place."
Dawnbreak Ridge has a reputation, and so does the Arcadian Pike. Head to the secluded beach tucked underneath the Sanctuary, the one sheltered by the cliffs, away from the main shore. It's a quiet, half-hidden stretch of water, exactly the kind of place a legendary Pike would call home.
Tip: The witch's hut mentioned in the verse is Miriam’s House, and it will help you orient on the island. The beach you want is below, out of sight from the main path.
Chapter 5 - The Goliath
Location: Riskborne Dunes
"Where desert winds and crumbling stone, a titan's majesty is shown. Past Goblin's dwelling, rift and tree, to cliffs beside the restless sea. A final test to prove your might, land a Goliath in the fading light."
The name says it all: this is a big catch in a big landscape. At Riskborne Dunes, push past the Goblin's camp and the rifts in the dune terrain until you reach the shoreline by the small hut at the sea's edge, close to the eastern ward cliff. The Goliath lurks in the churning water along that cliffy coastline.
Tip: "Fading light" is atmospheric flavour, not a time requirement: you don't need to fish at dusk. But it is a lovely spot for it.
Chapter 6 - The Razortooth Eel
Location: Dead Peak Atoll
"An ancient atoll — lost to time's embrace. Where ghostly figures forever chase. Follow the goddess' cape's long flight, to its delicate tip where darkness and light collide. A Razortooth Eel waits to test your skill; in haunted waters, cold and still."
Neither Dead Peak Atoll nor this catch is for the faint of heart. Head to the farthest point on the left side of your boat. That's where the light seems to fade into the cold darkness of the surrounding sea. Cast your line there, steel your nerves, and wait for the Razortooth Eel.
Tip: This is one of the most atmospheric fishing spot in the game. The "ghostly figures" are not just poetic license: keep your wits about you.
Chapter 7 - The Golden Sol Fish
Location: Xomapolis Harbor
"Where time forgot and steel decays, an ancient harbor in a ghostly haze. Sol Fish crowd these waters gray, but it's the tiniest one you crave today. Cast your line where shadows entwine to catch the rarest Sol Fish of all time."
The final chapter sends you to the eerie ruins of Xomapolis Harbor. Sol Fish are everywhere in these grey waters, but you're not after just any Sol Fish. You want the Golden Sol Fish, the rarest of them all. Make your way to the absolute farthest point of the harbor, where the shadows are deepest and the decay is most complete. That's where the Golden Sol Fish hides among its unremarkable cousins.
Tip: The sonnet's hint that Sol Fish "crowd these waters" is both true and a test of patience. Don't get distracted by ordinary catches — keep casting at that far point until gold flashes on your line.
